LAGOS, Nigeria – 7th August 2026— The leadership of Nawai-ru-deen Society, during Jumat Service, has called on Muslims across Lagos to shun political apathy, come out en masse to vote, and support credible, peaceful, and transparent elections.
The call was made during a sensitization engagement with the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Lagos Directorate of Muslim Affairs, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Tayo Ayinde Akinmade, Chief of Staff to the Governor of Lagos State, held at the Nawai-ru-deen Central Mosque, Lagos Island.
The delegation was led by the Director of Muslim Affairs, Alh. Waheed Tella, alongside Hajia Idayat Aloba (Esq), Alhaji Tajudeen Uzamot, and other key stakeholders.
Receiving the delegation, the Chief Imam of Nawai-ru-deen Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdul Majeed Ayinla, charged Muslims to take their civic responsibility seriously.
“We must learn from our past. Muslims should not be reluctant to participate in elections. We should vote responsibly, support the right candidates, and prepare ourselves for the economic changes that accompany national development,” Imam Ayinla said.
In his remarks, Alh. Waheed Tella highlighted the achievements of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda, citing initiatives such as NELFUND, road infrastructure projects, and social intervention programs. He urged all eligible citizens with PVCs to come out and vote.
“Every eligible citizen with a PVC must come out to vote. We must reject political apathy and ensure that the electoral process is peaceful, free and fair,” he stated.
He further called for support for the second term of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the re-election of Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat as Governor of Lagos State, stressing that credible democratic participation is the only path to sustainable leadership.
Also speaking, Alhaji Tajudeen Uzamot, a member of the Renewed Hope Committee, described Muslim participation as critical to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The active participation of Muslims in the elections is pivotal to achieving the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda. We must all play our part by coming out to vote,” Uzamot said.
He commended the leadership of Nawai-ru-deen Society for hosting the engagement and appreciated the congregation for their commitment to the sensitization program.
The former Chairperson of the Women’s Wing of Nawai-ru-deen Society, Alhaja Rasheedat Danmole, also stressed the need to strengthen voter education among Muslim women.
“Women have an important role to play in educating one another and ensuring that they are well informed ahead of the elections,” she noted.
The engagement concluded with a collective call for peaceful, credible, and transparent elections. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to promoting civic responsibility and encouraging greater voter participation across the Muslim community in Lagos.
