In a significant step towards youth empowerment, skills development and digital inclusion, the Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has officially broken ground for the construction of a state-of-the-art Vocational Centre and ICT Hub at Ipakodo.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held today, Saturday, August 8, 2026, was performed by the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA, Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, FCA, FCTI, signalling the commencement of a landmark project aimed at equipping young people with practical and digital skills for the future.
The initiative is designed to address unemployment by creating opportunities for youths to acquire relevant vocational skills, develop entrepreneurial capacity and become self-reliant.
The proposed Vocational Centre will provide hands-on training in several areas, including Fashion Design, Hairdressing and Beauty, Catering and Hospitality, Carpentry, Welding and Fabrication, Electrical Installation, and Shoe and Leather Works.
Through these programmes, young people are expected to gain practical expertise that can translate into sustainable businesses, employment opportunities and improved livelihoods.
The project also features an ICT Hub, which will provide training in key areas of the digital economy, including Software Development, Graphics Design, Digital Marketing, Data Analysis, Cybersecurity and Freelancing.
Equipped with modern facilities and reliable internet access, the ICT Hub is expected to serve as a digital learning and innovation space where young people can develop technology-based solutions, access remote work opportunities and compete more effectively in the global digital economy.
Speaking on the significance of the project, the administration described the initiative as an investment in the future of Ikorodu West, with a focus on developing a skilled, innovative and economically productive generation of youths.
The groundbreaking ceremony therefore marks the beginning of what could become a major hub for skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, innovation and digital transformation within Ikorodu West and beyond.
For the people of Ipakodo and the wider Ikorodu West community, the project represents more than the construction of a physical facility; it is a deliberate investment in human capital and the economic future of young people.
