LAGOS, Nigeria — The Chief Imam of Lagos State Central Mosque has called on Muslims across Nigeria to embrace unity, coordination and commitment as essential pillars for strengthening the Muslim community and achieving shared objectives, particularly ahead of future elections.
The call was made on Thursday, 6th August 2026 during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors Lagos - Directorate of Muslim Affairs, led by the *Director of Muslim Affairs, Alh. Waheed Tella.
The meeting, commenced and in attendance was Hajia Idayat Aloba(Esq), Alhaji Tajudeen Uzamot, Dr. Mustapha Bello and Imam Abdulwasi.
The engagement began with an exchange of pleasantries as the Chief Imam welcomed the delegation, after which opening prayers were offered.
Delivering the opening address on behalf of the delegation, Alh. Waheed Tella thanked the Chief Imam for receiving them and prayed to Allah to grant him long life, sound health and wisdom in the service of Islam.
“Our purpose here is to seek your blessings and fatherly advice as we continue our responsibilities under the Renewed Hope initiative,” Alh. Waheed Tella* said. “We remain committed to serving the Muslim community with sincerity and dedication.”
Responding, the Chief Imam expressed appreciation to the committee for its continued efforts towards the growth of Islam, describing their contributions as commendable.
“I thank you for your commitment to Islamic affairs,” he said. “There is still much work to be done by Muslims at both the state and federal levels. Our responsibilities are enormous, and we must remain focused.”
Speaking on the need for greater cooperation among Muslims, the Chief Imam stressed that unity must remain the guiding principle for achieving meaningful progress.
“Muslims should have a single agenda and remain coordinated at both the federal and state levels,” he said. “There is a need to harmonise our objectives and goals if we are to achieve the results we desire. We must reject segregation and work together as one united body.”
The Chief Imam further urged members of the committee to sustain regular engagement with stakeholders, emphasizing three key principles that should guide their activities.
“Never stop consulting” he advised. “*Our success depends on consultation, coordination and commitment.”
He also offered prayers for peace, stability and divine guidance for the nation, particularly as Nigeria prepares for future electoral activities.
Also addressing the gathering, Alhaji Tajudeen Uzamot reflected on the experiences of the last general election, explaining that members of the committee undertook the assignment out of commitment to Islam rather than personal gain.
“We accepted this responsibility because of our love for Islam,” Uzamot said. “Money was never the motivation. Our desire has always been to serve the Muslim community faithfully.”
In his closing remarks, the Chief Imam encouraged the committee to remain resolute in carrying out its responsibilities without fear or hesitation.
“Continue your work with sincerity and confidence,” he charged. “Do not be discouraged. Carry out your responsibilities diligently, and whenever you require support or guidance, do not hesitate to return. We will always stand with you.”
The meeting concluded with prayers for the continued growth of Islam, the well-being of Muslim leaders and the unity of the Muslim Ummah. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to working collectively for the advancement of Islamic affairs in Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.
