Ikorodu West LCDA Holds Revenue Workshop to Boost Internally Generated Revenue

IKORODU, LAGOS  In a renewed effort to strengthen its financial capacity and improve service delivery, the Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has concluded a three-day workshop aimed at enhancing the council's internally generated revenue (IGR).

The workshop, held from July 29 to 31, 2026, was organised by the administration of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Otunba Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju (SKO), FCA, FCTI, in collaboration with Mutfadlinks Nigeria Ltd. The programme was themed, "Providing the Enabling Environment for Improved Revenue Generation at Ikorodu West LCDA."

Speaking during the workshop, Hon. Olanrewaju described revenue generation as the backbone of sustainable grassroots development, stressing that a healthy revenue system remains essential to the council's ability to execute developmental projects and provide quality services to residents.

The Chairman, a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Practitioner, charged revenue officers and field operatives to approach their responsibilities with professionalism, resilience, and integrity despite prevailing economic challenges. He urged them to identify untapped revenue sources capable of expanding the council's revenue base without placing unnecessary burdens on residents.

He further advised officers to prioritise the collective development of Ikorodu West over personal interests, encouraging them to remain committed to transparency, accountability, and excellence while striving to achieve their daily revenue targets.

According to him, improving the council's internally generated revenue is critical to sustaining ongoing development initiatives and fulfilling his administration's commitment to delivering effective governance at the grassroots.

Delivering a presentation at the workshop, guest speaker Mr. Kehinde Yusuff emphasised the need for proper monitoring of operational vehicles assigned to revenue officers, noting that an enabling work environment and effective supervision would significantly improve revenue collection. He maintained that increasing the council's IGR is a collective responsibility that requires discipline, commitment, and efficient management.

The workshop was attended by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Otunba Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, FCA, FCTI; Human Resource Officer, Mrs. Shomoye Abiodun; Head of the Information Department, Mrs. Olabisi Bello; Council Treasurer, Mr. Dosunmu; the Head of the Agriculture Department; Revenue Committee Chairman, Mr. Adebowale; Hon. Adisa Umar; and other members of the Revenue Committee.

The workshop forms part of the council's broader strategy to strengthen its revenue generation framework and ensure adequate funding for developmental projects and improved public service delivery across Ikorodu West LCDA.
