The Office of the Supervisor for ICT, Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), successfully convened a strategic stakeholders’ meeting on Tuesday, 17th March 2026, at the SAIL Innovation Lab, Ebute, as part of ongoing efforts to drive digital transformation and inclusive technological development within the council area.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the ICT Department, SAIL Innovation Lab, Community Development Council (CDC), and the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ikorodu West Branch. The engagement provided a platform for collaborative dialogue on the future of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the LCDA.
In his opening remarks, the Supervisor for ICT emphasized the critical role of technology in modern governance, economic development, and community empowerment. He noted that embracing digital solutions is essential for improving service delivery, enhancing transparency, and creating opportunities for residents, particularly young people.
A key highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the current state of ICT development in Ikorodu West. It was acknowledged that the council is at a foundational stage, with limited infrastructure and no existing framework to guide ICT implementation. Despite these challenges, the administration reaffirmed its commitment to building a strong and sustainable digital ecosystem from the ground up.
Participants identified several pressing challenges, including low digital literacy, lack of infrastructure, absence of digital payment systems, weak interdepartmental connectivity, and limited access to mentorship opportunities in technology.
In response, the meeting approved a series of strategic initiatives aimed at addressing these gaps. These include the rollout of digital literacy programs for staff and youth, ICT training focused on freelancing and self-reliance, development of a digital payment system to modernize transactions, and the establishment of a project monitoring and evaluation framework to ensure accountability.
Other key initiatives include improving interdepartmental connectivity and the development of an official council website to enhance communication and public access to information.
The meeting also emphasized inclusivity, noting that all ICT programs will be designed to accommodate individuals across different age groups, genders, and backgrounds. Stakeholders stressed the importance of community engagement, ensuring that all initiatives are tailored to meet the real needs of the people.
To ensure sustainability, it was agreed that all initiatives will receive the necessary legal and institutional backing, with support from the Office of the Chairman and relevant legal authorities.
Speaking at the close of the meeting, the Supervisor for ICT expressed optimism about the future, stating that the council is entering a new phase of innovation and growth. He noted that within the next three months, the community should begin to experience tangible improvements in digital capacity, service delivery, and access to opportunities.
This engagement marks a significant step toward building a digitally inclusive and forward-looking Ikorodu West LCDA, where technology serves as a tool for empowerment, development, and collective progress.
