Governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem has pledged to introduce a policy that will financially reward parents who enrol their children in school, describing education as a fundamental right that must be guaranteed for every child, not a privilege for the few.
Kareem made the pledge during a grassroots engagement with leaders and residents of Ibadan South-East Local Government as part of preparations ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Addressing the gathering, he said his administration would prioritise free and quality education, backed by incentives that encourage parents to keep their children in school.
According to him, parents would receive financial incentives for enrolling their children, with the amount paid determined by the number of children attending school.
He explained that the policy, inspired by models successfully implemented in parts of the Western world, would help boost school enrolment, reduce dropout rates, and ensure that no child is left behind due to poverty or social circumstances.
He added that linking incentives to school attendance would also help the government generate accurate data on students across the state, allowing for better planning, improved resource allocation, and stronger learning outcomes.
Beyond education, the aspirant also outlined plans to introduce interest-free loans for small and medium-scale businesses, targeting traders, artisans, entrepreneurs, and young business owners.
He said the initiative would stimulate economic activity, create jobs, and improve livelihoods across Oyo State.
The aspirant stressed that disciplined leadership anchored on integrity, transparency, and the fear of God would make these initiatives achievable, noting that governance must be rooted in service and accountability to the people.
He further disclosed that the proposals form part of his policy blueprint, Our Realistic Tomorrow, which he described as a practical roadmap for inclusive governance and sustainable development in Oyo State.
The visit ended on a positive note with donations made to support the local community, as he reaffirmed his commitment to building an Oyo State where opportunity is equal, hope is restored, and the future of every child is secured.
